New Schneider Electric solution adds smart functions to standard electrical panels

Schneider Electric has announced the launch of a new modular, flexible solution to add smart panel functionality to standard home electrical systems. This solution, including the new Square D Control Relays and Schneider Energy Monitor, offers homeowners nationwide app-based control with easier installation and lower cost than current smart panel options.
Installing this solution will provide homeowners with the benefits of a smart panel, including circuit-level management for increased energy savings and security, as well as system-wide energy monitoring. Whether upgrading their existing Square D QO Plug-on Neutral electrical panel or installing a new panel, it will allow homeowners to inexpensively add smart functionality only where needed to better manage energy use and lower utility bills.
“We are facing new and growing challenges in powering our homes from the grid with flexibility issues and rising utility electricity costs,” said Pape Ndaw, Senior Vice President, North America Home & Distribution Hub, Schneider Electric. “We are excited to bring to market an easy-to-install solution that will enable homeowners across the country to address these issues. Unlike some smart panels, this allows homeowners to control only the loads they need to control via an app, making this a cost-effective solution for app-based monitoring and control of home energy use.”
Available at electrical distributors nationwide, these solutions can be installed quickly and easily by a licensed electrician. Square D control relays are designed to snap directly onto Square D QO Plug-on neutral switches, while the Schneider Energy Monitor can be added directly into the panel at the same time. Both devices can be quickly operated via the app, allowing the homeowner to now monitor and control energy usage from their mobile device.
